Teacher Biography

Nancy Carlson, Mt. Pleasant, MI

Nancy Carlson has been weaving since 1983.  She is a former Home Economics teacher, who began to teach craft classes (including baskets) after her children arrived.  She has taught at the Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina and Tennessee State Basket Conventions, Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri, as well as at workshops around the country and in her Studio.   

Nancy has received awards for Best Flat Reed Basket, most Original Woven Wreath, and for her miniature baskets.  In addition to teaching, Nancy serves as a board member for the Association of Michigan Basketmakers and has helped coordinate past conventions in Michigan. 

Nancy enjoys weaving, designing baskets, selling, teaching in addition to writing patterns.  She specializes in practical, shaped baskets made from rattan.  She enjoys weaving all types of baskets in her 24 years and she particularly enjoys the look of amazement on a beginner weaver’s face upon competition of their first basket.
