Biography
Marlys Sowers - Milo, Iowa
| Marlys began making baskets 21 years ago, beginning with reed, then black ash,
pine needles and other flexible plants she could find in the woods. She raises
13 kinds of basket willows on her farm in Milo, harvests it and prepares it for
weaving. She makes rib style, traditional style and many different shapes that are
her own designs. She also makes many kinds of Nantucket, Shaker and Appalachian - style
baskets. Marlys teaches basketmaking classes at many conventions and special invitation
classes throughout the US as well as at her studio during the year.
