Patti Hawkins: Twills from Conception to Delivery

| Description: |
Students will create an exhibit-quiality piece in this workshop that explores the facsinating mathematical concepts and structural foundations of twill basketry. The
basket begins with black rattan stakes, twined with waxed linen over a mold to establish the structure. Thsi technique allows the discreet addition of stakes in different numbers to accomodate multiple twills.
Students will plan and execute their own designs in Hamburg cane with endless options ranging from quatrefoil to undulating twills. Each individual work of art is completed with more twining and a heavy rim. |

This basket is all about 8 - dyed and natural stakes in groups of 8, twill choices with 8 spoke pattern repeats and options to change
twill direction and/or color every 8 rows of weaving. Beginning with a round base, you'll discreetly add more stakes in red and natural; then, jazz up the finely detailed twill of your
choice in vivid colors of Hamburg cane. This beauty is woven on a mold for a perfect shape, complete with a half round rim and lashed with waxed linen. |
