Recipe:   Oster Hasen (Easter Rabbit) Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups vegetable shortening
  • 1 1/4 cups butter
  • 15 eggs
  • 13 tsp. baking powder
  • 15 cups flour
  • 2 1/2 cups milk

Vanilla Frosting:

  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp. milk
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Instructions:

  • Cream sugars, shortening, and butter together.
  • Beat in eggs, one at a time.
  • Mix dry ingredients and add alternately with 2 cups milk; only add the last 1/2 cup milk if needed. It is a very soft dough.
  • Refrigerate dough overnight.
  • Cutout cookies and bake in 350 oven for 10 to 15 minutes. Cool and frost. Use raisins or chocolate chips for eyes.

Yield: 10 dozen cookies, depending upon size of cookie cutter.
