Starved Rock Weaving Day

Event:   Starved Rock Weave
Date:   June 13th, 2005
Location:   Starved Rock Lodge, Utica, IL

June will be here before we know it and that means the LLBWA annual Starved Rock Day of Weaving. Members and non-members are invited to participate. Bring a friend or two, or just come to weave with us.

I was first introduced to this Plaid Workbasket pattern in 1995, written prior to that date by Debbie Richards of Lake Orion, Michigan. It is an intricate yet relatively uncomplicated use of various widths & colors to create the 'plaid' pattern. A braided/rolled border completes the top edge of this sturdy basket. It is a real blend of function and form.

You may choose to bring a project of your own to work on or you may order a kit in navy, green and burgundy. The cost of the complete kit, as pictured, with handle is $27. While you may choose to bring your own color combination, there will be no other color choices in the kit. If you would like to bring your own supplies, you will need:

20" square notched handle

From the Navy Blue:
  • 1/2" flat, 4 @ 32"
  • 1/2" flat, 5 @ 27"
  • 3/8" flat, 6 @ 48"
  • #2 round reed 7 pieces @ 27"
From the Green:
  • 1/4" flat, 4 @ 27"
  • 1/4" flat, 5 @ 32"
  • 1/4" flat, 6 @ 48"
  • #2 round reed, 5 pieces @ 30&qyuot;
From the Burgundy:
  • 3/16" flat oval, 5 @ 48"
  • #2 round reed, 5 @ 30"
From the Natural:
  • 1/2" flat, 5 @ 32"
  • 5/8" flat, 8 @ 27"
  • 3/8" flat, 8 @ 18"
  • 3/16" flat oval, 3 @ 48"
  • #2 round reed, 6 long pieces for twining the base, 36 @ 34" for the braided/rolled border.

This basket has a filled base and all spokes and weavers are precut. Dimensions are about 12 1/2" high x 13" long x 10" wide.

The day will begin at 8:30 AM, with registration and a continental breakfast served until 10 AM when weaving will officially begin.

Lunch wil be served in the Great Room adjacent to the weaving room. Please indicate your choice of croissant sandwich on the registration form, salad, dessert & coffee or iced tea is included. Following lunch there will be a short business meeting, then plenty of time to finish your basket or walk around Starved Rock Park. Don't forget to bring something for the "Show and Share" table so we can see what creations you have been working on.

Registration fee is $30 without the kit and is due by May 16th, 2005.
