Starved Rock Weaving Day
There’s a twist to this year’s Starved Rock weaving day. Sherry Sayles of SDS Basketry will offer two baskets — one a traditional, wooden-based basket called Oval Brownie Stripe, and another, Starved Rock Tapestry, that allows weavers to express their creativity. Each basket is $35. Partial kits are available for the Oval Brownie Stripe only. The Oval Brownie Stripe has a wooden oval base and attached D handle. It includes cross stitching and a rolled border. Weavers are natural and smoked reed. The Starved Rock Tapestry has a round wooden base with a container attached. It starts with traditional weaving with round and flat reed. When you reach the top of the container, the sky’s the limit on how you finish it. Sherry will have a variety of materials available to use and also several suggestions for finishing the basket.
Registration Registration is due by May 14. Complete the registration form and return to Mary Ann Ford. Besides the cost of the basket, there is a $30 registration fee that covers the cost of renting the facility, breakfast and lunch. You don’t have to be an LLBWA member to register.
The Order of the day The day will begin at 8 a.m. with check-in and a buffet-style, continental breakfast. Weaving will begin about 9 a.m. Lunch will be served in the Great Hall just outside our weaving room. Please be sure to make your lunch selection on the registration form. Lunch includes entrée or sandwich, salad and coffee or iced tea. There will be a short membership meeting during lunch. As always, there will be a show and share table where weavers can bring their latest creations for all to see.
Shopping Sherry also will be vending at the event. Click here <SDS Basket Supplies> to view . She also will have a variety of other items, including reed. Because space is limited in her vehicle, she is encouraging weavers to pre-order items to be sure they are available at the weave. To pre-order items, please e-mail Sherry at sdsbaskets@maplenet.net. |
