Camp Tuck-A-Basket

Event:   Camp Tuck-A-Basket
Date:   March 2 - 4, 2007
Location:   Interstate Center, Bloomington, IL

This year, Camp Tuck will be held at the Interstate Center in Bloomington, Illinois. With a larger facility we are able to sponsor some extra activities on Saturday night.

We have seven outstanding teachers offering Friday evening classes, and all-day classes on Saturday and Sunday. There is something for everyone and all weaving levels. The baskets this year offer very unique designs using a wide range of materials and techniques. We feel very fortunate to have attracted such talented teachers and we want to express our sincere thanks to each of them!

Before you register, please read the class descriptions carefully and pay attention to days and times when making your selections. Regular classes range from six to eight hours (8-hour classes will continue for one hour after supper on Saturday). When you sign up, pay close attention to suggested weaving levels, length of class, special tools required, and description (especially SIZE), so there will be no surprises when you attend class.

Your class selections must be postmarked no later than November 20th to be considered as a first day registration. Many classes will fill on the first day, so don’t delay. Please read and follow all the instructions carefully on the registration form. Note that you should list all Saturday and Sunday classes in the overall order of preference, rather than separating them by days. This way it is easier for us to know what your overall top choice is. Please do NOT list any class you are not willing to take!! If there is only one class you want, you may list only that one, however, that does not increase your chances of getting into that class. It simply means that if your one choice is already full, your registration check will be returned. It has happened!

Registration is $35 for one day and $65 for both Saturday and Sunday. There is no additional fee for Friday night classes for registered participants. This is a bonus courtesy of the LLBWA! Friday night classes may be taken only by those registered for the conference. You must be a LLBWA member to register. Our membership year runs from April 1st to March 31. Sorry, dues are not prorated or refundable. If you are not currently a member, it’s not too late to join. Simply enclose a check for $15 for the membership made payable to LLBWA, along with the completed membership form.

Classes will be assigned in random order, beginning with all forms postmarked by November 20th. You will receive class confirmations by December 18th. At that time, you will need to complete the confirmation form and provide payment for: classes, kits and meals selected. Confirmation information must returned by January 15th, 2007 to guarantee your place in class. Checks should be post-dated March 2, 2007, and will not be given to teachers until the day of class. If there is space available, classes will be assigned until they are full, so if you are signing up late, don’t assume there are no open classes. There will be no cancellations or refunds allowed after January 15th, 2007.

An open weave area will be available Saturday and Sunday for those not registered in a class. However, the full registration fee is required for each day for those wanting to come to open weave.

We will also welcome some terrific vendors to the conference. Teacher’s Marketplace is a popular event in which you will have the opportunity to purchase directly from the teachers.

Meals are not included in the registration fee. Cafeteria meal selections will be available at the facility and must be pre-paid. This year we will be offering lunch on Saturday and Sunday. More details will be sent with your class assignments. You are not required to eat at the camp to attend the conference. Saturday supper’s Pizza Party was a huge hit the last few years so, we plan to host it again in 2007.

And finally, a word about where to stay while enjoying all Camp Tuck has to offer: there are several hotels that are located very close to the Interstate Center. We have reserved several rooms at two of these. There are a number of other lodging facilities in the Bloomington/Normal area.

Along with the wonderful classes, the following vendors will be at Camp Tuck:

East Troy Basketry – (888)-424-9866, www.easttroybasketry.com

If you would like to pre-order any supplies to pick up at Camp Tuck, please contact one of the above vendors. Or if there is something specific you are interested in, please let the vendors know so they can bring that item.  This is a great way to shop and not pay shipping!

Also, Sally Durkee of Gifts of Love Pottery will be demonstrating pine needle ornaments!  A “make it and take it” pine needle ornament will be available for $15.  Please visit Sally’s web site for more information. If you know for sure you will want to make one of these, drop Sally a line so she knows how many to bring!
