Camp Tuck 2008  Saturday Class

Laura Lee Zanger : CHEOCHEE

Description:

This basket is woven with the richness of forest colors and the 1-3-5 twill designs of the Chiefs Daughter and Man in the Coffin.  To me it represents the tears of the mothers and the many deaths on the Trail of Tears.  However , it was named for Cheochee, the brother of Jocassee, from the Legend of Jocassee because he caused many deaths as the story is told.  The base layout will be simplified by starting in a corner.  Students will have the opportunity to learn to weave the first three rows simultaneously if they choose.  The handle /rim combination is woven in one continuous motion.
