It is time to elect some
new officers, and the ballot is included in our November newsletter.
Several
of our officers will complete their terms at the end of this year. Mary
McKinzie will be moving into the Interim President position and Pat
Gustafson will be retiring as Treasurer after 5 years of doing a fabulous
job of keeping money available in the guild. Catherine Boaz is currently
Secretary, but has put her name in for President.
In the fall we will be electing a new President,
Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer (term to begin January 1, 2010).
The following members are candidates in the
upcoming election:
President - Catherine Boaz Catherine began her
weaving calling when she took a class with Kay Kjelgaard in 2005. Soon
she learned about LLBWA thru a co-worker, Dianne Mockler. Catherine
has served on the Board as Secretary since January, 2007, and was
co-coordinator of the Starved Rock weave in June, 2007. She has been a
member of the Basket Art Guild and continues to weave regularaly with the
Bloomington Basket Weave guild, attending LLBWA weaving events and other
groups. She shares her love of weaving and promotes the art of
basketry. Catherine has done an excellent job on the Board, and is
enthused about taking on new challenges as our President.
Vice-President - Cindy Kretz Cindy has
agreed to be our candidate for Vice-President. She did 3 major
things one day in June, 2007: she attended the Starved Rock weave,
made her first basket there, and joined LLBWA that very same day.
That first basket was a simple market basket. Her sister was
always excited when she mentioned a weaving event so she wanted to
experience it for herself. Right from the beginning, Cindy was
hooked and got involved in helping out. She belongs to the Basket
Art Guild and promotes weaving by participating as a vendor in the
annual Shawnee Wine and Arts Festival in Murphysboro, IL. We are
excited to have a candidate to represent Southern IL.
Secretary
- Linda Hinkelmann Linda Hinkleman made her first basket in 1989 from a
kit and is now teaching beginning, and intermediate basket weaving in
her shop, Basket Beginnings in Oregon, IL. She has taught basketry to
young people from the Sterling Park District and many Girl Scouts.
Treasurer - Jan Fries Jan has been weaving for 5 or 6
years. Rose Gramp has been her weaving mentor. She usually
goes to Starved Rock and weaves with the Bloomington Guild. She
has been a member of LLBWA for several years. Jan has experience
as treasurer for two other organizations.
